In Memory of David Lewis

It is with much sadness that we share the news that our Farrington’s Grove neighbor David Lewis has passed away. David was a founding member of Farrington’s Grove Historical District, Inc. and one of its three original board members. He proposed the district's name after reading newspaper accounts from September 1856 that detailed historic orations at "Farrington's Grove" by figures such as Senator Stephen Douglas of the Lincoln-Douglas debate fame and Oliver P. Morton, who became the 14th Governor of Indiana and later served as a U.S. Senator. The district’s designation was bestowed in 1986.

David’s contributions to preserving the rich history of Farrington’s Grove are embodied in his thoughtful restoration of his cherished house, the Williams-Warren-Zimmerman House (affectionately known as the Cottage-Among-the-Lindens). This Greek Revival gem was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

David was a lifelong advocate for history, particularly our own local history. His work in Farrington's Grove over the years has been invaluable. Simply put, Farrington's Grove as we know it would not exist without the work of David and his fellow FGHD, Inc. founders.
