Painted Traffic Boxes Launch in Farrington’s Grove

As part of the citywide project to paint traffic boxes, Farrington’s Grove Historical District, Inc. has been planning and organizing the painting of select traffic boxes in the neighborhood. We currently have two boxes painted!

S. 7th and Washington Street

For the first box in this project, local artist Jordan Heath painted an image of the distinctive Sage Mansion in Farrington’s Grove.

The traffic box features work by local artist, Jordan Heath. Jordan is a native of Terre Haute. He grew up, in fact, on S. Center Street, just blocks from the traffic box. He said he has fond memories of the neighborhood: “lots of adventures” and “the people.” He has been painting and working with digital graphics for about 8 years, but his passion is acting. He has worked with the Community Theater of Terre Haute and is currently enrolled in an actor’s academy with the goal to work in television and film.

Jordan’s painting is a representation of what is commonly referred to as the “Sage Mansion.” The house, standing at 1411 S. 6th Street (just a few blocks from the traffic box), was built in 1868 by William Sage. It is one of Farrington’s Grove Historical District’s examples of Italianate architecture. Jordan has captured Sage Mansion in all the fall glory of the neighborhood, highlighting Farrington’s Grove’s signature trees and autumn foliage.
